Critical air handling unit repair completed in 24 hours
We were recently called to support a client facing an urgent issue with one of their air handling units. The shaft and bearing within the unit had suffered extensive wear and damage due to prolonged misalignment, causing a major risk to airflow and climate control within a key production environment.
Following an on-site assessment, our engineers confirmed the need for immediate intervention. The solution involved sleeving the damaged shaft and replacing the severely worn bearing, both of which were critical to restoring operational capacity and preventing extended downtime.
Engineering response and repair approach
With time being a key factor, the Willand team coordinated the design, machining, and procurement of a custom shaft sleeve alongside sourcing a replacement bearing within hours. Once parts were delivered to site, engineers carried out:
Removal of the damaged shaft section and original bearing
Installation of a precision-engineered stainless steel sleeve
Bearing housing clean up and fitting of the new bearing
Re-alignment of the assembly to eliminate further stress
Testing and confirmation of smooth rotation and correct airflow
All works, including fabrication coordination and installation, were completed within a 24-hour timeframe from the initial callout—ensuring the facility returned to full production without any significant delay.
